THE PASSING OF A BABY IN FAULKNER COUNTY HAS RAISED THE DEATH TOLL 
FROM THE MAYFLOWER/VILONIA TORNADO OF APRIL 27TH TO 16. THIS MAKES 
IT THE DEADLIEST SINGLE TORNADO IN ARKANSAS SINCE A TORNADO ON MAY 
15 1968...WHICH AFFECTED TUCKERMAN AND THE JONESBORO AREA...AND 
KILLED 35.

THE BOOK SIGNIFICANT TORNADOES 1680-1991 BY THOMAS P. GRAZULIS SAYS 
THIS ABOUT THE 1968 TORNADO...WHICH WAS RATED AS F4...

MOVED ENE THROUGH THE SOUTH PART OF TUCKERMAN. SIX HOMES WERE 
DESTROYED AS THE TORNADO PASSED NEAR VALLEY VIEW...JONESBORO...
FAIRVIEW...NETTLETON...BLACK OAK...AND NEEDHAM. ABOUT 164 HOMES 
WERE DESTROYED AT JONESBORO. THE ENTIRE NETTLETON SCHOOL WAS 
DESTROYED. AT LEAST SEVEN CARS ON ONE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY WERE 
HURLED ACROSS A NEARBY RAILWAY. SOME CARS WERE WRAPPED AROUND 
TREES...KILLING THE OCCUPANTS.
