...Notification regarding a change in the flood stages for the
Nooksack River at Ferndale...

The National Weather Service has adjusted the flood stages for the
Nooksack River at Ferndale river forecast point effective today
November 6, 2017. Flood flow or flood stage is the river level at
which flood warnings are issued by the National Weather Service. The
flood stage was changed from 19.0 feet to 18.0 feet and the moderate
flood stage was changed from 21.0 feet to 20.5 feet. These changes
were made in response to changing flood impacts on the river. Flood
impacts in and around Ferndale are now beginning when the river
reaches 18 feet. In addition, moderate flood severity occurs at a
slightly lower stage as well. The major flood stage remains the
same. These changes have been coordinated with, and in conjunction
with Whatcom County River and Flood.

Here are the new and old flood stages:

Flood Severity New Stage Old Stage

Flood Stage/Minor Flood 18.0 feet 19.0 feet
Moderate Flood 20.5 feet 21.0 feet
Major Flood 23.0 feet 23.0 feet
