A line of showers and strong gusty winds moved through North Central
GA during the afternoon hours on Wednesday December 20 2017. A NWS Survey team investigated
two areas where there were either reports of damage or indications on radar that suggest damage.
Small embedded areas of weak rotation were noted on radar within this line of showers as it moved through. One such
area of rotation produced a brief tornado in Meriwether County. Another area produced wind
damage within a subdivision southwest of the town of Senoia in Coweta County.

An EF0 tornado with maximum winds of 80 to 85 mph touched down just west of the intersection
of Imlac Road and Walnut Creek Road where a few trees were damaged. The tornado hit a fruit
stand along Imlac Road removing the tin roof with debris scattered in the trees nearby.
A shed was damaged on the south side of Imlac Road and several large trees were uprooted in the tree line near the shed.
The tornado crossed Carroll Chunn Road where several trees were snapped and uprooted and a home sustained
shingle damage. As the tornado tracked east, it crossed Hwy 85 just south of the Covered Bridge Road intersection
where a barn collapsed on the west side of Hwy 85 and a garage sustained some roof damage on the east side of Hwy 85.
Several trees were either snapped or uprooted as well along either side of Hwy 85. The tornado continued east paralleling Stribling
Road snapping a few trees in fields behind some homes on the south side of Stribling Road. The tornado lifted near the Flint River.
Dual Pol radar indicated debris from this tornado was lofted as high as 3000 feet.

.Coweta County Damage...

Rating: Damaging Wind
Estimated Peak Wind: 60-65 mph
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start Date: December 20 2017
Start Time: 12:38 PM EST
Start Location: 4.4 miles southwest of Senoia GA
Start Lat/Lon: 33.2619/-84.6173

Dual pol radar indicated a small area of rotation and possible debris signature southwest of Senoia. An NWS Survey
found 2 pine trees downed in the tree line on Chase Wood Lane as well as a trampoline destroyed after it was
blown 50 feet. A second trampoline was in a tree along Fire Creek Trail. Leaf debris was also heavy in the area where the damages
occurred and likely the source of the debris signature seen on radar at 300 feet.
The survey team could find no other evidence of damage east or west of this location and therefore lacked enough evidence
to support calling this damage tornadic.

EF scale: The Enhanced Fujita scale classifies tornadoes into
the following categories.

EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph
EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...Violent...166 to 200mph

The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to
