...Strong winds and blowing snow through this afternoon on the
Glenn Highway...

Strong winds overnight are continuing this morning along the Glenn
Highway between Palmer and Anchorage. These strong winds are
easily causing the low-density snow on the ground to be drifted
and blown around, impacting those driving on the highway. Winds
are expected to stay high through the morning before beginning to
slowly diminish this afternoon.

Drivers should slow down and remain alert to changing conditions.

...Water levels rising on the Kenai River as freeze-up continues...

The recent cold snap has caused the Kenai River freeze-up process
to kick into high gear. As ice fills the river, it can build up
and start to restrict the flow in the river channel. This has
caused water levels to rise considerably during the last week near
Soldotna. In the last few days temperatures have dropped and the
river has approached bankfull at some locations. While no flooding
has been reported and none is expected at this time, residents
along the river should still exercise caution. Bring portable
docks and other movable objects away from the riverbank in case of
additional water level increases. This type of freeze-up is a
normal process that occurs on many rivers in the state and is not
one to be concerned about unless significant flooding were to
occur.

If you experience any flooding, please report it at
www.weather.gov/aprfc/submit?site=afc
