...Change to Climatological Period of Record for Danville and

Recently, the National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI)
has extended the climatological period of record for Danville and
Bluefield climate stations, through a process known as
"threading". Over the years, Bluefield and Danville have seen
changes in the location where climate data was recorded. Through
this threading process, climate data recorded at these older
locations have been connected together with the current location,
effectively extending the period of record at both sites.

These changes take effect this morning at 10 AM.

As of 10 AM this morning, the new climatological period of record
for Bluefield is from October 1891 to Present. For Danville, the
new climatological period of record is from April 1916 to Present.

Users interested in climactic data and records for these two
climate sites may use websites such as NWS NOWData or xmAcis2,
using the "Bluefield Area" or "Danville Area" location selection.
Selecting these two location options will use the updated period
of record described above.
