A MAGNITUDE 5.1 EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED IN SPARTA NORTH CAROLINA THIS
MORNING AT 807 AM EDT. THIS EARTHQUAKE FOLLOWED AN EARLIER 
EARTHQUAKE OF MAGNITUDE 2.6 IN THE SAME AREA AT 157 AM EDT THIS 
MORNING. 

WE HAVE RECEIVED NUMEROUS REPORTS ACROSS THE GSP FORECAST AREA OF
SHAKING STRUCTURES, YET NO DAMAGE HAS BEEN REPORTED. 

THE LAST TIME AN EARTHQUAKE IN NORTH CAROLINA WAS STRONGER THAN 
THE CURRENT EARTHQUAKE WAS IN 1916, WHICH OCCURRED NEAR SKYLAND,
NC AND HAD A MAGNITUDE OF 5.2.
