...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR MAY 27TH, 2022 TORNADO EVENT...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TEAM INSPECTED STORM DAMAGE
NEAR THE COMMUNITY OF NORWOOD, VA AND CONCLUDED THE DAMAGE
WAS CAUSED BY A TORNADO OF EF2 INTENSITY ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA
SCALE, WITH MAXIMUM WIND GUSTS OF 135 MPH. THE TORNADO TOUCHED
DOWN IN A FIELD 0.4 MILES SOUTHEAST OF NORWOOD BEFORE HEADING
NORTH-NORTHEAST CROSSING U.S. HIGHWAY 221 AND PROCEEDING TO
CROSS BETHANY CHURCH ROAD AND LANGFORD LANE. THE AREA OF LANGFORD
LANE IS WHERE THE TORNADO REACHED ITS MAXIMUM INTENSITY RESULTING
IN ONE OUTER WALL OF A HOME AND TWO MOBILE HOMES BEING DESTROYED.
THE TORNADO THEN CONTINUED ON MORE OF A NORTHEAST TRACK WHERE IT
SNAPPED TREES JUST WEST OF THE IVY HILL GOLF COURSE. THE 
TORNADO THEN TRACKED ALMOST DUE NORTH WHERE ADDITIONAL TREES WERE
UPROOTED OR SNAPPED. THE LAST EVIDENCE OF TREE DAMAGE OCCURRED
ON THE WESTERN SLOPES OF FLEMING MOUNTAIN JUST EAST OF ROCKY 
MOUNTAIN ROAD, ABOUT 2.9 MILES SOUTHWEST OF COLEMAN FALLS.
DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED TO 15 RESIDENCES. ADDITIONALLY, 35 STRUCTURES
SUCH AS SHEDS, OUTBUILDINGS, AND GARAGES WERE DAMAGED. NUMEROUS
TREES WERE EITHER DOWNED OR SNAPPED ALONG THE PATH OF THE TORNADO.
TWO INJURIES OCCURRED IN THIS AREA. THE LENGTH OF THE TORNADO
TRACK WAS ESTIMATED TO BE 6.25 MILES, AND THE MAXIMUM WIDTH WAS
APPROXIMATELY 330 YARDS.
